My eye strain 😵💫
Lately, I've been feeling the strain on my eyes, especially after long hours in front of screens. My old glasses were outdated, both in prescription and style, leaving me squinting at my computer and feeling less than fabulous when I stepped out. I craved a fresh look, something chic yet comfortable, that could handle my daily digital demands. I'd heard whispers about the affordability and variety of online eyewear, and the idea of finding a stylish pair without breaking the bank really appealed to me. I was particularly drawn to the sophisticated, slightly vintage charm of cat-eye frames, hoping they could add a touch of personality to my everyday ensemble. I knew I wasn't alone in this quest; many people, like me, are looking for accessible and fashionable vision solutions online in 2024.
My search eventually led me to Cinily Eyewear. I spent hours browsing their extensive collection, drawn in by their tempting discounts and the promise of high-quality frames. What really sealed the deal for me was their selection of cat-eye styles; I found myself repeatedly returning to the Gmei Cat Eye Glasses, specifically the elegant Gmei Optical Women Cat Eye Myopia Glasses Frame Spring Hinges Female Eyewear Prescription Spectacles Frames Oculos 2012 C2. The virtual try-on feature was a game-changer, allowing me to see exactly how they’d look on my face, which was crucial for an online purchase. The ordering process itself was straightforward, prompting me for my prescription details. However, I did notice, and it's something I later saw reflected in other customer feedback, that the site didn't explicitly prompt for pupil distance (PD) measurement. While I had mine from a recent optometrist visit, I can imagine how this might be an oversight for some. I completed my order, added blue light filtering and anti-scratch coatings, and then settled into the anxious wait for my new vision.
A little over a week later, in late 2024, my package from Cinily Eyewear arrived. The unboxing was a moment of pure anticipation. The glasses came in a sturdy, protective case, nestled securely, which immediately gave me a sense of confidence in their journey. Unveiling the Gmei Cat Eye Glasses, I was instantly pleased. The frame felt surprisingly substantial and well-made, not at all flimsy. The "spring hinges" were a nice touch, offering a flexible and comfortable fit right out of the box. The cat-eye shape was exactly as depicted online – flattering and stylish, striking that perfect balance between modern and retro. The dark hue of the frame and the subtle shine gave them a premium feel, far exceeding what I'd expected for the price.
However, my initial excitement soon hit a snag when I actually put them on. While the frames felt great, the vision was… off. I struggled to focus, experiencing a slight blurriness and a strange pull on my eyes, especially when trying to read. My first thought was that perhaps my prescription had changed, but a quick visit to my ophthalmologist confirmed my existing prescription was accurate. It turned out to be the PD. As a customer, Steve Greenbaum, vividly shared in his review, "We ordered a pair of glasses for our 12-year-old after he found them using the virtual try-on, but he said he had trouble seeing with them. We went back to the doctor to check everything, and he informed us that the pupil distance (PD) was incorrect. The PD is typically measured by the person from whom you purchase the glasses, not the doctor. The glassesusa site does not prompt you to provide the PD number, and if you don’t know to provide it, they will just assume a value of 62 (adult) or another value for kids. Of course, that means the value will be wrong for many buyers." This was exactly my experience. I had entered my prescription but not my specific PD, assuming the site would either prompt me or default to a standard value that would work. Cinily Eyewear, like the site mentioned in Steve's review, seemed to have used a generic PD that wasn’t right for me, causing the visual distortion.
My next step was to contact Cinily Eyewear's customer service. This is where the experience, unfortunately, echoed some of the frustrations highlighted by others. As Steve Greenbaum further noted, "Please know you will never be able to reach a human at glassesusa and have a real phone conversation if you call them, so plan on frustration if your glasses are not correct. Email interactions are too slow, causing the process to drag on. I’m glad to say that when I wrote my original review, glassesusa saw it and called me to offer corrected lenses. I took them up on that offer, but getting the order reprocessed took longer than expected. The link I was provided to do the exchange didn’t work, and there was no way to reach the person who had made the offer. Most emails take a couple days to get a response, and I felt like I was starting the conversation over each time." While I did eventually get through via their chat, the process of explaining the PD issue and arranging a remake felt somewhat disjointed and slower than I’d hoped. I had to send my original Gmei Cat Eye Glasses back first, leaving me without my new frames for a period, which was inconvenient. After a few rounds of emails and a bit of a wait, the corrected pair arrived in early 2025. This time, the vision was perfect. The blue light coating has been a lifesaver for my screen-heavy days, and the anti-scratch coating seems to be holding up well to daily wear.
Despite the initial hiccup with the PD and the somewhat drawn-out customer service process, I'm genuinely happy with my Gmei Cat Eye Glasses. The frames themselves are fantastic – stylish, comfortable, and feel durable. As Steve Greenbaum concluded his review, "The glasses, once remade, are working out well for us." This resonates perfectly with my experience. My recommendation comes with a caveat: make absolutely sure you provide your precise PD during the order, or be prepared for a potential exchange process. If you can navigate that, or if your PD is a standard value, then Cinily Eyewear offers incredible value for stylish, quality frames. They are definitely worth considering, especially if you're looking for fashionable eyewear without a hefty price tag, provided you have your ducks in a row regarding all your prescription details.
